Don Barker

is an eminent master blacksmith based near York, England, with over 40 years experience in the craft.  He is highly regarded for his traditional craft skills and proud to have been, in 2011/12, the first working smith to be elected Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths in London for more than 200 years.

Notable Projects and Experience
Don’s career includes prestigious commissions and deep-rooted heritage:

  • Royal and Historic Commissions: He has restored the railings and created Gothic-style lanterns for Westminster Abbey, produced bronze lamps for the Queen Mother’s memorial on The Mall, and crafted lighting for St Paul’s Cathedral.
  • Blacksmithing Lineage: He can trace his family’s blacksmithing tradition back over 300 years to the early 18th century.

TV & Video

Featured as a mentor in the 2010 BBC series Master-crafts where he trained beginners in traditional ironwork techniques. Also other series including “Trading Places” with Tommy Walsh when Tommy tried the craft for himself.
